Paradox Pokémon, sometimes called Enigmas of Paldea, were first introduced in the Scarlet and Violet games which were released in November 2022. They are all Generation IX Pokémon, that are relatives of well-known Pokémon brought to the present with a time machine. They gain their name through being a contradiction in nature.

There are two types of Paradox Pokémon: those that are ancient but yet appear in the present and those that hail from the future but appear in the present. Due to their enigmatic nature these Pokémon often have unusual abilities and attributes that would not be possible under normal circumstances. They are also gender unknown.

Ancient Paradox Pokémon have the Special Ability – Protosynthesis, while Futuristic Paradox Pokémon have the Special Ability – Quark Drive.

Legendary Pokémon Koraidon and Miraidon differ from the other Paradox Pokémon in that they are ancient and futuristic relatives of Generation IX Pokémon Cyclizar. They also have different abilities to their counterparts. Koraidon has the Special Ability Orichalcum Pulse while Miraidon has Hadron Engine.
