What Are Galarian Pokémon? Complete List

 

Galarian Pokémon are Pokémon from earlier generations that can be found in the Sword and Shield Galar region. They are special because they have taken on a new form and can use Generation VIII powers. If a Galarian Pokémon evolves its evolution will also be a Galarian Pokémon. There are currently 25 Galarian Pokémon.

What is the Galar Region?

Galar Region - Sword and Shield

The Galar Region is a new Pokémon region introduced in 2019 with the launch of the Generation VIII Sword and Shield. The image shows the Wild Area of the Galar Region which is first seen fairly early in the game.  The Wild Area is a vast area that is full of Pokémon of differing levels. 

Some earlier generation Pokémon that can be found in the Galar Region have taken on a new regional form. These Pokémon are given the adjective Galarian to distinguish them from their original form. In the Trading Card game, these Pokémon have improved abilities as they take on Generation VIII abilities.

Meowth Pokédex Number 052

Meowth Normal and Galarian Pokémon Form

Meowth is a Generation I Pokémon that first appeared in 1996 with the launch of Pokémon Red and Blue in Japan. Meowth is a Normal type Pokémon but Galarian Meowth is a Steel type Pokémon. Its Galarian form takes on a more aggressive appearance and can evolve to Gigantamax form. In normal form Meowth evolves to Persian but in Galarian form it evolves to Galarian Perrserker.

Ponyta is a Generation I Pokémon that first appeared in 1996 with the launch of Pokémon Red and Blue in Japan. Ponyta is a Fire type Pokémon that evolves into Rapidash. In Galarian form it becomes a Psychic type and its flames are replaced by purple and green fur. It also develops a healing horn on its head. Galarian Ponyta evolves into Galarian Rapidash.

Rapidash is a Generation I Pokémon that evolves from Ponyta. It first appeared in 1996 with the launch of Pokémon Red and Blue in Japan and is a Fire type Pokémon. The Galarian form evolves from Galarian Ponyta. In Galarian form Rapidash is a Psychic/Fairy type and the flames are replaced by a long flowing green/purple mane and tail.  It also has a healing horn on its head.

Slowpoke is another Generation I Pokémon that  first appeared in 1996 with the launch of Pokémon Red and Blue in Japan. It is a Psychic/Water type Pokémon. Slowpoke can evolve into Slowbro or Slowking. Slowpoke takes on Galarian form when it appears in the Sword and Shield series. It is no longer a Water type but retains its Psychic type. Galarian Slowpoke evolves into either Galarian Slowbro or Galarian Slowking.

Slowbro is a Generation I Pokémon that evolves from Slowpoke. It first appeared in 1996 with the launch of Pokémon Red and Blue in Japan. It is a Psychic/Water type Pokémon. Slowbro takes on Galarian form when it appears in the Sword and Shield series and evolves from Galarian Slowpoke. In Galarian form Slowpoke is a Psychic/Poison type Pokémon.

Farfetch’d is a Generation I Pokémon that first appeared in 1996 with the launch of Pokémon Red and Blue in Japan. It is a Normal/Flying type Pokémon. As a Galarian Pokémon,  Farfetch’d is more aggressive and becomes a Fighting type Pokémon. It evolves into Galarian Sirfetch’d by making three critical hits in one battle.

Weezing is another Generation I Pokémon that first appeared in 1996 with the launch of Pokémon Red and Blue in Japan. In normal form it evolves from Koffing and is a Poison type. Weezing appears in Galarian form in the Sword and Shield series where it is a Poison/Fairy type Pokémon. Galarian Weezing takes in toxins and the hats/chimneys exude clean air. Weezing does not evolve.

Mr Mime is a Generation I Pokémon that first appeared in 1996 with the launch of Pokémon Red and Blue in Japan. It evolves from Mime Jr and is a Fairy/Psychic type Pokémon. Mr Mime appears in Galarian form in the Sword and Shield series where it takes on Ice/Psychic form and has the ability to form ice barriers.

Zapdos is a Generation I Legendary Pokémon that first appeared in 1996 with the launch of Pokémon Red and Blue in Japan. It is an Electric/Flying type Pokémon.

Zapdos appears in Galarian form in the Sword and Shield series where it takes on a more aggressive Fighting/Flying form.

Slowking is a Generation II Pokémon that evolves from Slowpoke. It first appeared in 1999 with the launch of Pokémon Gold and Silver in Japan. It is a Psychic/Water type Pokémon that evolves from Slowpoke. Slowking takes on Galarian form when it appears in the Sword and Shield series and is evolved from Galarian Slowpoke. In Galarian form Slowpoke is a Psychic/Poison type Pokémon.

Corsola is another Generation II Pokémon that first appeared in 1999 with the launch of Pokémon Gold and Silver in Japan. In Normal form Corsola is a Water/Rock type that resembles pink coral and has a smiley face. In Galarian form Corsola is a Ghost type. It has a sad expression and is coloured white, indicating the coral has been bleached and killed by global warming. In Galarian form Corsola evolves into Galarian Cursola.

Zigzagoon is a Generation III Pokémon that first appeared in November 2002 with the launch of Ruby and Sapphire. It is a Normal type Pokémon. As a Galarian Pokémon its stripes change from brown and white to black and white and it becomes a Normal/Dark type. Galarian Zigzagoon evolves into Galarian Linoone.

Linoone evolves from Zigzagoon and is also a Generation III Pokémon that first appeared in November 2002 with the launch of Ruby and Sapphire. It is a Normal type Pokémon. In Galarian form its stripes change from brown and white to black and white and it becomes Dark/Normal type. Galarian Linoone evolves into Galarian Obstagoon.

Darumaka is a 5th Generation Pokémon that evolves into Darmanitan. It first appeared in September 2010 with the launch of the Pokémon Black and White series. It adopts Galarian form when it appears in the Sword and Shield series and changes from a Fire type to an Ice type. Galarian Darumaka evolves into Galarian Darmanitan.

Darmanitan is a 5th Generation Pokémon that evolves from Daramuka. It first appeared in September 2010 with the launch of Pokémon Black and White.

As a Galarian Pokémon in Sword and Shield, it changes from a Fire type to an Ice type. Galarian Darmanitan evolves from Galarian Daramaka.

 

Yamask Pokédex Number 562

Yamask is a  Generation V Pokémon that first appeared in Sepetmber 2010 with the launch of Pokémon Black and White. It is a Ghost type Pokémon.

In Galarian form its eye changes colour from red to purple and it becomes Ground/Ghost type. Its body also changes. Galarian Yamask evolves into Galarian Runerigus.

 

Stunfisk Pokédex Number 618

Stunfisk is another Generation V Pokémon that first appeared in September 2010 with the launch of Pokémon Black and White. It is a Ground/Electric Pokémon.

In Galarian form it is Ground/Steel type. Galarian Stunfisk has a slightly altered appearance and is coloured grey and green rather than brown and yellow. 

 

Obstagoon Pokédex Number 862

Obstagoon evolves from Galarian Linoone.  Obstagoon is a Generation VIII Pokémon that first appeared in November 2019 with the launch of Sword and Shield. It is a Normal/Dark type Pokémon.

Because Obstagoon did not appear in any earlier Generations, and only exists when it evolves from Galarian Linoone, it can only be Galarian form.

 

Perrserker Pokédex Number 863

Perrserker evolves from Galarian Meowth, a Generation I Pokémon that has Galarian form when found in the Sword and Shield series.  Perrserker is a Generation VIII Steel type Pokémon that first appeared in November 2019 with the launch of the Sword and Shield series.

Perrserker automatically has Galarian form because it has not appeared in any earlier Generations and evolves from a Galarian form Pokémon.

 

Cursola Pokédex Number 864

Cursola evolves from Galarian Corsola, a Generation II Pokémon that has Galarian form in the Sword and Shield series. Cursola is a Generation VIII Pokémon that first appeared in November 2019 with the launch of Sword and Shield. It is a Ghost type Pokémon.

Cursola automatically has Galarian form because it has not appeared in any earlier Generations and evolves from a Galarian form Pokémon. The appearance of  Galarian Cursola mimics the deterioration of coral reef.

 

Sirfetch’d Pokédex Number 865

Sirfetch’d evolves from Galarian Farfetch’d.  Sirfetch’d is a Generation VIII Pokémon that first appeared in November 2019 with the launch of Sword and Shield. It is a Fighting type Pokémon that uses a leek as weapon of choice.

Sirfetch’d only has Galarian form because it did not appear in earlier generations and evolves from Galarian Farfetch’d.

 

Mr Rime Pokédex Number 866

Mr Rime evolves from Galarian Mr Mime.  Mr Rime is a Generation VIII Pokémon that first appeared in November 2019 with the launch of Sword and Shield. It is a Psychic/Ice Pokémon

Mr Rime only has Galarian form because it did not appear in earlier generations and evolves from Galarian Mr Mime.

 

Runerigus Pokédex Number 867

Runerigus

Runerigus evolves from Galarian Yamask.  Runerigus is a Generation VIII Pokémon that first appeared in November 2019 with the launch of Sword and Shield.

Runerigus only has Galarian form because it did not appear in earlier generations and evolves from a Galarian form Pokémon.
