The Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Base set is the first set of the Scarlet and Violet Series. This new set sees a change to the rarity specification of cards with Secret Rare cards being split into Illustrator Rare, Special Illustration Rare and Hyper Rare cards. Special Illustration Rare and Hyper Rare cards are likely to be the most sought after cards.

What are Chase Cards?
Chase cards are rare cards that have a 1/100 or less chance of being inside a booster pack. Previously, they have generally been one of the ultra rare or secret rare cards from an expansion set. However, with the new Scarlet and Violet rarity specification (see above) Chase cards are highly likely to be the Illustrator Rare, Special Illustration Rare and Hyper Rare cards.
If there is a full art Charizard in a set it is highly likely to be a Chase card but in sets without a Charizard card it is more a case of the cards that hold the most appeal due to their artwork, their rarity or their value. Charizard does not feature in the Scarlet and Violet Base Set, but new ancient Pokémon, Koraidon and Miraidon, are the set mascots and their cards are likely to be highly sought after by players and collectors alike.

10. Clauncher – 205/198
Occupying our number 10 spot is Clauncher, the only Illustration Rare card to make our list. This card has been chosen for its stunning artwork which depicts Clauncher in an underwater scene surrounded by green vegetation. Two days before release it is selling for around £10 on Ebay UK and $10 on Ebay.com.
9. Arven 249/198
Arven is a new Generation IX Trainer. The son of Professor Truro and Professor Sada, he is depicted here making a sandwich at a picnic table. This Special Illustration Rare card takes 9th spot in our top 10 Scarlet and Violet Base Set Chase cards. It can be purchased today (29th March 2023) for around £25 on Ebay UK and on Ebay.com for $30.
8. Iron Treads ex 248/198
Iron Treads is one of the new Generation IX Pokémon and this Special Illustration Rare Card depicts the character in ex form. Iron Treads is depicted speeding through a sandy landscape underneath a blue/green/red starry night sky. Two days before set release, this card is currently on sale for around £30 on Ebay UK and Ebay.com for around $35.
7. Koraidon ex 254/198
The first of two Gold Hyper Rare cards takes our number 7 spot. Koraidon ex is one of the set mascots and fills the foreground of this card. The background is a swirling golden night sky. This card is currently available, two days before release, on Ebay UK for around £35 and on Ebay.com for around $40.
6. Miraidon ex 253/198
This card is the second of two gold cards to make our Top 10 Scarlet & Violet Base Set Chase Cards and takes our number 6 spot. The first of two Miraidon ex cards, this one shows our character depicted in a swirling golden starry landscape. Two days pre-release this card is available for purchase on Ebay UK for around £45 and Ebay.com for around $50.
5. Great Tusk ex 246/198
Great Tusk ex is a Special Illustration Rare card that features Great Tusk in a hazy barren landscape of pinks, yellows and purple. A few solitary barren twigs are the only features that break the desolate landscape. This compelling artwork earns the card the number 5 spot in our Scarlet and Violet Base Set top 10 Chase Cards. 4. Gardevoir ex 245/198
Fourth spot goes to Gardevoir ex 245/198. The detailed artwork of this card shows Gardevoir enjoying refreshments in an indoor setting that is predominantly green and pink. A lemon tree can be seen behind the floral sofa while a leafy pot plant occupies the bottom left corner. With an impressive 310 HP as well as intricate artwork this card will be highly sought after by both players and collectors. 3. Koraidon ex 247/198
This Special Illustration Rare card was revealed several weeks before set release and depicts set mascot Koraidon in a woodland setting surrounded by green leafy plants and woodland flowers. Dedenne can also be seen on the left of the card. The stunning artwork and hefty 230 HP contribute to this card earning the number 3 spot in our top 10 list. The card is selling for £70 on Ebay UK for around $80 and Ebay.com two days before set release.
2. Miraidon ex – 244/198
Miraidon ex 244/198 is the second Miraidon ex in our list and this one takes third place. This Special Illustration Rare, full art card depicts our character in an indoor setting. The depiction of cushions, seating and a table with a cake and glass suggests a café. The card can be purchased today, 29th March 2023 on Ebay UK for around £100 and Ebay.com for around $100.
