GX cards were a feature of the Sun and Moon series. They have a high Hit Point (HP) and powerful GX attacks that cause high damage. However, a GX attack can only be used once in a game and if a GX card is knocked out it gives up two prize cards rather than the usual one.

10. Tapu Lele GX 60/145 – SM Guardians Rising 2017
This Tapu Lele GX card makes our list because of its abilities. Wonder Tag enables the player to add a Supporter card to their deck, Energy Drive does 20 damage times the amount of Energy attached to both Active Pokémon and Tapu Cure GX heals all damage from 2 Benched Pokémon. We also like the artwork which sees Tapu Lele against a backdrop of blue sky and green grass, surrounded by swirling Autumn leaves. This card was reprinted as part of the Celebrations Classic Collection.
9. Umbreon SV69/SV94 – SM Hidden Fates 2019
The Hidden Fates expansion set was highly anticipated because it included a Shiny Vault of 94 cards. This card depicts Umbreon in profile form against a white background. Umbreon is one of the evolutions of Eevee and a fan-favourite Pokémon. It has a HP of 200 and 3 Attack moves: Strafe allows the player to switch this Pokémon with 1 of their Benched Pokémon; Shadow Bullet does 30 damage to 1 of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon and Dark Call GX allows the player to discard 2 Energy from their opponent’s Pokémon.
8. Moltres, Zapdos & Articuno SM210 – SM Promo Cards 2017
There were four Tag Team cards featuring the Legendary Birds Moltres, Zapdos & Articuno. All four have a massive 300 HP and the abilities Trinity Burn which gives 210 damage and Sky Legends GX which causes 110 damage to 3 opponents cards simultaneously. We have chosen this one of the four cards for our list due to its unique stained glass window artwork.
7. Latias & Latios GX 170/181 – SM Team Up 2019
Another Tag Team card, this one featuring female Latias and male Latios, has been selected for its beautiful artwork. The two Pokémon are positioned nose to nose which creates a heart shape between them. Rays of light from the rising sun radiate from the centre of the heart shape. The card has a HP of 250 and the moves Buster Purge which deals 240 damage and Aero Unit GX which can prevent all effects of attacks, including damage, done to it during your opponent’s next turn.
6. Mewtwo GX 78/78 – SM Shining Legends 2017
This Mewtwo GX is an iconic card with realism artwork that depicts and embryonic cloned Mewtwo floating in a growth vat. The dark laboratory background gives the image a sinister, mysterious quality well deserving of a place in our Top 10 Pokémon GX cards. It has a HP of 190 and three attacks – Full Burst deals 30 damage times the amount of Energy attached, Super Absorption heals 30 damage from this Pokémon and Psystrike GX ensures that this attack’s damage isn’t affected by any effects on your opponent’s Active Pokémon.
5. Charizard GX 9/68 – SM Hidden Fates 2019
Charizard is arguably the most popular Pokémon in the Trading Card Game. This Charizard GX has 250 HP and two powerful attacks: Flamethrower deals 140 damage while Flare Blitz GX does a massive 300 damage. The artwork for this card shows Charizard against a background of sand, rocks and sky. Its head is thrown back to emit a plume of flame which is escapes the border of the card.
4. Arceus, Dialga & Palkia GX 221/236 – Cosmic Eclipse 2019
This Alternate Art, Ultra Rare card features Legendary Pokémon Arceus, Dialga & Palkia. The three appear to be depicted as a large statue in a circular tower which is lit from above. The card has 280 HP and two powerful attacks: Ultimate Ray which allows the player to attach up to 3 basic Energy cards to their Pokémon in any way and Altered Creation GX which allows your Pokémon’s attacks to do 30 more damage to your opponent’s Active Pokémon for the rest of this game,
3. Reshiram & Charizard GX 217/214 – SM Unbroken Bonds 2019
Our list of Pokémon GX Cards would not be complete without a Secret Rainbow Rare card. We have chosen this Tag Team of Reshiram & Charizard from the Unbroken Bonds expansion set. It has a HP of 270 and 3 Attacks: Outrage which does 10 more damage for each damage counter on this Pokémon, Flare Strike prevents use of Flare Strike during your next turn and Double Blaze GX which does 100 more damage if it has 3 extra energy attached, and this attack’s damage isn’t affected by any effects on your opponent’s Active Pokémon.
2. Pikachu & Zekrom 162/181 – Team Up 2019
This is the 5th Tag Team card included in our list of Top 10 Pokémon GX Cards and shows the popularity of the Tag Team format. We love the aggressive, arms-folded stance of Pikachu perched on the left wing of Zekrom. The card has 240 HP and 2 Attacks: Full Blitz allows the player to attach up to 3 Lightning Energy Cards to one of their Pokémon, Tag Bolt GX does 170 damage to 1 of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon if the card has 3 Lightning Energy cards attached to it.
1. Charizard GX SV49/SV94 – SM Hidden Fates 2019
Shiny cards have always been popular with collectors and Charizard is a fan-favourite Pokémon. Putting the two together and adding GX strength and attacks puts this at the top of our Top 10 Pokémon GX Cards. The artwork shows Charizard, in blue red and cream against a white background. The card has 250 HP; Wing Attack causes 70 damage, Crimson Storm a massive 300 damage and Raging Out GX allows the player to discard the top 10 cards of their opponent’s deck.
