Stellar Type Pokémon Explained – Info, Strengths, Weaknesses

What are Stellar Type Pokémon?

Stellar type Pokémon are unique to Generation IX and first appeared in the Indigo Disk DLC of the games Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Special crystals were discovered in Area Zero that enabled Terapagos to create the Terastal phenomenon whereby Pokémon were able to terastallize. Terastallized Pokémon become covered in shiny crystals.

Terapagos is the only Pokémon that can become Stellar type without being terastallized. All other Pokémon must be terastallized before they can become Stellar type. Stellar type Pokémon can be identified by a ring of coloured crystals, representing the 18 regular Pokémon types. The image below shows Terapagos in Stellar form.

What are Stellar Type Strengths and Weaknesses?

When in battle, all Pokémon types have strengths and weaknesses against other Pokémon types.

Stellar Type Strengths:

When attacking – Stellar type Pokémon are strong against terastalized Pokémon.

When being attacked – Stellar type Pokémon have no special resistances but retain the properties of their regular elemental type.

Stellar Type Weaknesses:

Stellar type Pokémon have no special weaknesses but retain the properties of their regular elemental type.

Stellar Type Moves:

Stellar type Pokémon have two unique moves:

Tera Blast – Inflicts damage with the user’s Attack or Sp. Attack stat— whichever is higher. Super effective against Terastallized targets. This lowers the user’s Attack and Sp. Attack stats.

Tera Starstorm – With the power of its crystals, the user bombards and eliminates the target. When used by Terapagos in its Stellar Form, this move damages all opposing Pokémon.

Stellar Type Pokémon in the TCG

Stellar type Pokémon were first introduced to the Trading card game with the release of the Stellar Crown expansion in September 2024.

Terastallized Stellar type Pokémon are known as Tera Stellar type In the TCG. These Pokémon retain their regular elemental type but have powerful special moves and attacks that are named after gem stones. As with regular cards, these moves and attacks require a designated number of basic energy cards. However Tera Stellar Pokémon use a range of energy types rather than just that of their regular elemental type.

To use the Low Unified Beatdown move associated with this card, the player must attach two Colorless Energy cards. To use the Crown Opal attack, one grass energy, one water energy and one lightning energy are required. When deciding which cards to include in a deck, players should be aware of the qualities and requirements of their chosen Pokémon cards.

At the bottom of the card is detailed information about that card’s weakness, resistance and retreat cost – all of which are the same as that Pokémon’s regular elemental type.
