What is Pokémon Snap?
Pokémon Snap was released on 30th April 2021. It is the latest Pokémon video game offering from Nintendo. Based on the 1999 version of the game, this new version brings the game up to date.
The title of the game is derived from the fact that you have to photograph Pokémon in particular locations or with specific items. The photos are then given a rating of up to four stars. You can edit photos that you are not completely happy with.
This new version of Pokémon Snap includes 200 Pokémon characters rather than the 63 that appeared in the original. It also has many more courses to follow as you journey around the islands that make up the Lental region.
Additionally, each course can be followed at day and at night giving opportunity to spot both day and night-time Pokémon. Side quests challenge you to snap Pokémon in specific and hidden locations.
What is the object of the Game?
The object of the game is to photograph all the Pokémon in the Lental region and achieve a 4 star rating for each photograph. Side quests give you specific instructions regarding photographs that can also be completed.
As you travel the courses around the region, Pokémon become more relaxed with your presence and your research level increases. As you reach higher levels the shyer Pokémon begin to reveal themselves.
In addition to the photography element of the game, you help Professor Mirror in his Pokémon research by observing the creatures in their natural environment, particularly those that sometimes glow. As you travel the courses around the region, Pokémon become more relaxed with your presence and your research level increases. As you reach higher levels the shyer Pokémon begin to reveal themselves enabling you to get good snaps of them.
What are the Downsides to the Game?
After playing for a while the game can become quite repetitive particularly if an elusive Pokémon fails to reveal itself. Another downside is that there is no given criteria on how to achieve each star rating so a snap that you feel is particularly good may not get the rating you feel it deserves.
Players expecting high-action excitement will be disappointed by the chilled, relaxed atmosphere of this game.
However, it can be an addictive game and as you strive to snap every Pokémon available you are certainly living up to the legendary slogan ‘Gotta Catch ’em All’.
