Pokémon GO Community Day – Info & Latest Dates

What is a Pokémon GO Community Day?

A Pokémon Community Day is a recurring event in the Pokémon GO mobile game where players come together to catch special featured Pokémon, earn bonuses, and enjoy various in-game activities for the duration of the event. Although Pokémon GO was first launched in July 2016, Community Day events were not introduced until 2018. They typically last for around 3 hours.

Community Days aim to foster a sense of community among players who are encouraged to come together and enjoy the event in a social setting. Many players organize or join local meetups, raids, and gatherings to make the most of the event.

These events are advertised with a special graphic that sees the featured Pokémon in a natural landscape, surrounded by a frame that has the Pokémon GO logo at the top and the words Community Day or Community Day Classic at the bottom.

Pokémon GO Community Day – Featured Pokémon

All Pokémon GO Community Days have a Featured Pokémon. This can be any Pokémon character that has not reached its final evolution. Where the event is a Community Day Classic, the Featured Pokémon will be a classic Pokémon character, often a Generation I Pokémon. Where a Pokémon becomes the Featured Pokémon for a second time it is often referred to as an Encore Experience.

For the duration of the event, the Featured Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild, giving players a good chance of catching it. Lucky players may even catch a shiny version of the Pokémon as there is a greater chance of Shiny Pokémon appearing on Community Days. Shiny Pokémon can be identified by looking for those with gold stars around them.

If a player manages to evolve the Featured Pokémon during the Pokémon GO Community Day, then the evolved Pokémon will have an exclusive move. This move is not available under normal circumstances, and players are encouraged to evolve the featured Pokémon during the event to obtain it. These exclusive moves can make the Pokémon more powerful in battles.
