How Good is the Celebrations Pull Rate?

This article takes a look at the Celebrations pull rate and offers results for packing art cards and classic collection cards and results for packing a card from the highly collectible classic collection.

What is a Pull Rate?

One of the most important metrics for a new expansion set is the pull rate – the ratio of packs that have rare cards to those that don’t. Sets that have a good pull rate tend to be more popular than those with a low pull rate.

Pull rates are normally applied to booster boxes, but Celebrations is a special set and booster packs are only available in special boxes and collection sets.

Celebrations Booster Packs

Celebrations Booster Packs

Celebrations was released on 8th October 2021. It is a special set that commemorates the 25th Anniversary of Pokémon.

The set has a total of 50 cards. 25 cards make up a main set that is tournament legal. The other 25 cards are remakes of classic favourites from the past 25 years. These cards are not tournament legal.

The booster packs for this set differ from regular packs in that they only contain 4 cards. However, there are no non-holo cards. Cards are either holo rare, art cards or classic collection cards.

After opening just a few packs it is obvious that the majority of cards in a pack are holo rare cards from the main set. We have therefore only logged art cards or classic collection cards as being a significant pull.

How good is the Celebrations pull rate?

Umbreon Gold Star CelebrationsWe opened a total of 36 booster packs and logged the cards that were in each pack, making a note of art cards and classic collection cards.

Of the 36 packs, 15 contained 4 holo rares and no art or classic collection cards.

11 packs contained 3 holo rares and either 1 art or classic collection card. The cards from these packs were:

1 x Zacian V
1 x Zamazenta V
1 x Pikachu full art card
3 x Flying Pikachu V card
1 x Flying Pikachu VMAX
1 x Surfing Pikachu VMAX
1 x Professor’s Research full art card
1 x Luxray Lv.X
1 x Umbreon gold star

Blastoise10 packs contained 2 holo rare cards and 2 art or classic collection cards. The cards from these packs were:

2 x Pikachu full art card
1 x Zamazenta V
1 x Zacian V
3 x Flying Pikachu V
2 x Surfing Pikachu V
1 x Surfing Pikachu VMAX
1 x Here Comes Team Rocket
2 x Rocket’s Admin
1 x Rocket’s Zapdos
3 x Claydol
1 x Dark Gyarados
1 x Blastoise base set
1 x Umbreon gold star

Conclusion

From our 36 packs we pulled 31 cards that were either art cards from the main set or classic collection cards. This works out to an 86% chance of pulling one of either type of card from a pack.

However, with the exception of the gold Mew card, the art cards from the main set are proving relatively easy to find.

Looking at the pull rate of just the classic collection cards gives a very different result.

From 36 packs we pulled just 12 classic collection cards. This equates to a 33% pull rate.
