What are Double Rainbow Energy Cards?
Double Rainbow Energy Cards are Special Energy Cards that are used in the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG). They were first introduced in 2004 with the launch of the Team Magma vs Team Aqua expansion set.

Double Rainbow Energy Cards are very useful because they can be used as two of any Energy Type. They have featured in many expansion sets and although there have been many design changes over the years, the artwork for these Cards always features two Rainbow symbols. (Scroll to bottom for timeline and gallery of all cards released to date).
In the Pokémon TCG, a player can only use an Attack Move if the specified number of Energy are attached. This specified number generally includes one or more Energy that corresponds to the Pokémon type, and / or a number of Colorless Energy. Double Rainbow Energy Cards are useful because they provide two of any type of Energy.
Double Rainbow Energy Cards Text:
The text on all cards is roughly the same but there was a minor change to the text for the EX Emerald release. Listed below are two different texts seen on Double Rainbow Energy Cards in order of release.
2004 Team Magma vs Team Aqua release – ‘Double Rainbow Energy can be attached only to an Evolved Pokémon (excluding Pokémon-ex). While in play, Double Rainbow Energy provides every type of Energy but provides 2 Energy at a time. (Doesn’t count as a basic Energy when not in play and has no effect other than providing Energy.) Damage done to your opponent’s Pokémon by the Pokémon Double Rainbow Energy is attached to is reduced by 10 (after applying Weakness and Resistance). When the Pokémon Double Rainbow Energy is attached to is no longer an Evolved Pokémon, discard Double Rainbow Energy.‘
2005 EX Emerald release – ‘Double Rainbow Energy can be attached only to an Evolved Pokémon (excluding Pokémon-ex).
