What are Basic Darkness Energy Cards?
Darkness Energy Cards are one of the nine Basic Energy Cards that are used in the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG). However, they were first introduced as Special Energy Cards in 2000 with the launch of the Neo Genesis Set and continued to be produced until 2011. They were released as Basic Energy Cards in 2007 with the launch of the Diamond and Pearl Set and have continued to be released as Basic Energy Cards ever since.

Although there have been many design changes over the years, Darkness Energy Cards are always predominantly midnight blue and always feature the Darkness symbol of a black crescent on a midnight blue circle. (Scroll to bottom for timeline and gallery of all designs to date).
Darkness Energy corresponds to Dark type Pokémon and their cards always include the Darkness Energy symbol in the top right hand corner. In order to use an Attack Move of a Dark type Pokémon, the player will need to attach the specified number of Darkness and/or Colorless Energy Cards. The numbers required are indicated by the symbols to the left of the Attack Move.
A Darkness Energy Card can also be used when the Colorless Energy symbol appears because Colorless Energy can be any type of Energy.
The Okidogi ex card from the Shrouded Fable expansion has two Moves / Attacks. To use Poisonous Musculature the player must attach one Colorless Energy. To use Chain-Crazed, two Darkness and one Colorless Energy are required.
Timeline of Darkness Energy Cards:
There were 5 different designs of Darkness Special Energy Cards and to date there have been 12 different designs of Darkness Basic Energy Cards. Energy Cards were given numbers up to the release of the Sun and Moon series in 2017. The only Basic Energy cards to be given numbers from 2017 onwards are those that are released as Secret Rares.
